University of Maastricht Scholarships
Maastricht University aims at continuously improving its quality as a global institution. The UM Scholarship Programme enables UM to live up to this ambition, as it is intended to stimulate talented non-EEA students to pursue master’s programmes in Maastricht. Within this framework, UM offers three different scholarship programmes:
UM High Potential Scholarships: provides full tuition, living expenses, visa costs, insurance and a travel reimbursement for talented students
UM company scholarships: offered in partnership with companies to provide living expenses, visa costs and insurance for talented students studying at specific faculties
Friends Make the Difference Scholarships: offered in partnership with friends of UM to provide partial tuition costs, living expenses, visa costs and insurance for students studying at Maastricht University

Karla Scherer Scholarship
The Karla Scherer Foundation was established in 1989, the result of a successful proxy battle waged by Karla Scherer for control of the company her father founded in 1930. Initially the Foundation supported women at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as they pursued degrees in Economics or Finance at schools around the world.
With no geographic strictures, the Foundation’s goal was to target those women they believed would be tomorrow’s business leaders in a world where free trade and more open borders were becoming a reality. In 2003 it was decided to alter the course and focus of the Foundation. The offshore applicants comprised nearly one-third of the applicant pool. Their strong educational backgrounds in the humanities, particularly among those applicants from the newly emancipated nations of the former Soviet bloc,
were clearly superior to their American counterparts, giving them a distinct advantage by any measure of future success.

Europe & Liberty Summer Seminars
Institute for Economic Studies Europe (www.ies-europe. org) is continuing the Europe & Liberty seminars in 2008 in partnership with the Cato Institute’s Center for Promotion of Human Rights. The Cato Institute (www.cato.org) is one of the world’s most influential classical liberal research institutes. A great opportunity for young people to benefit from inter-cultural and intellectual exchanges, and to learn about classical liberalism!
This year’s joint Cato-IES seminar will be held in Bakuriani, Georgia (July 7-13), Ifrane, Morocco (July 20-26), and Gummersbach, Germany (July 27 – August 3).
There are no fees for the seminars, however students are responsible for their own travel to and from the location of the seminars.
