AZERBAIJAN: ENERGY-RICH, HEALTHCARE-POOR

Azerbaijan may have the mega-energy revenues needed to build roads and to refashion its military, but when it comes to regional healthcare, the country’s attention appears to be focused elsewhere.

Like many rural Azerbaijanis, Intigam Mammadov, a resident of Imamgulubayli village in southern Azerbaijan’s Agdam district, feels shortchanged by the situation. The lack of a well-quipped local hospital cost his father his life in 2006, Mammadov believes, adding that his father was a long-time sufferer from bronchial asthma. “The closest hospital is situated . . . four to five kilometers away from our village,” he recounted to EurasiaNet. “But this hospital has neither suitable conditions nor educated doctors. Since the quality of medical service is not satisfactory, there are very few people who go there,” he said.

Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy Joint Research Fellowship

The Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) is launching a joint research fellowship program for the years of 2008-2010.

This project aims to create a model for Azerbaijan¹s sustainable development while researching its competitive advantage. It takes the year 2025 as a benchmark when country¹s major oil resources are expected to deplete. We plan to develop various scenarios attempting to examine the strategy which will shape Azerbaijan of that time. Scenarios considered as outcome of the project may be utilized for academic discussion and/or policy application.

Framework of the project includes, but is not limited to, five major fields of study that are considered vital for strategy formulation and building competitive advantage. ADA recognizes that there are other important issues and challenges deserving attention. However, due to the resource and time limitations, they are not included in this phase of the project. ADA will focus on five fields of study outlined in this call, but reserves the right to add to or amend existing list.

Bu meqaləni oxumağa dəyər, burda yazılanlar bir çox insanın başına gəlib, elə mənimdə.

Azərbaycandan kənarda yaşayan həmyerlilərimizdən bir qrupu ANS-ə müraciət edərək olduqca maraqlı bir hadisə ilə bizi tanış etdilər. Fakt özlüyündə çox maraqlı idi. Əslində giley pis rabitədən, Azərbaycanla əlaqə saxlamağın demək olar ki, bəzən ümumiyyətlə mümkün olmamasından idi.

Düzdür, Azərbaycanda rabitə uzun müddət bərbad vəziyyətdə olub. Amma bütün bunlar çoxdan olub. 15-20 il əvvəl. Başqa telefona düşmək, səsin çox zəif gəlməsi kimi hallar da yəqin ki, ancaq orta və yaşlı nəsillərin yadında olar. ANS-in əməkdaşı məxsusi olaraq şikayət mövzusu ilə bağlı ezamiyyətə göndərildi. Ezamiyyətdən qayıdandan sonra elə faktlar danışdı ki, necə deyərlər qulaqlarımıza inanmadıq. Elə siz də inanmayacaqsınız yəqin. Baxmayaraq ki, məsələ elə qulaqla bağlıdır. Bizi qulaqlayırmışlar…
